Enabling Technology
We don't deal in Information Technology, Information and Communications Technology or Information Systems.
We deal in Enabling Technology.

Any system we develop that uses some form of technology should be doing so because it enables your business to perform some task. Technology by itself is not a solution - it should enable your business or staff to achieve a solution.
Okay, that's the wisdom out of the way, now let's confide in you that we're complete gadget freaks - it's been said that we can't seem to work any piece of equipment that doesn't have a "delete" key on it (yet somehow we can still program the video and set up our big-screen television).
Some of our equipment we routinely use in our work includes:
Personal computers - we run laptops and desktops which have been heavily customised to suit our own needs and to run on our secure wireless network,
-
Portable computers - including a Dopod Windows Mobile 6 based mobile phone, as well as the TDS Recon, TDS Nomad and Trimble Juno PDA units as part of our field data collection solution,
Scanners - we run two scanner units in-house, including a simple A4 unit from HP and an industrial size FujiXerox ApeosPort unit, which handles high volume scanning and up to A3 colour printing and is integral to many of our projects,
-
Global Positioning Systems - we use several Compact Flash GPS units to enable us to use GPS in a number of devices including our personal and portable computers, but most of our gear has built in GPS's now anyway
Digital Storage media - including portable hard drives and a range of flash memory,
Digital cameras - with some great weatherproofing cases to prevent not just water, but also dust and other spillages (like coffee).
We also have a very powerful tool at our disposal - this web site. Thanks to the hosting services provided by Hostaway, we can supply a range of solutions and services through the Internet. Our on-line databases, such as Earth 2.0, are just one aspect of that - but we also provide specific areas for our clients to access documents, databases and other information that is secure.
In terms of software, we are obsessive about keeping our products properly licenced - we make a living off of programming and working with technology, so we make sure we're not doing that to the detriment of someone else. We use commercial software from Microsoft, ESRI, MapInfo, Google Earth, MySQL, Adobe, Macromedia and a range of other sources, including some very useful shareware programs.
We're also big believers in the open source movement, and we use a range of open source tools, such as uDIG, QGIS, gvSIG, GeoServer, GeoTools, Apache Commons and a whole heap of other software. We've even developed an open source tool, HermesLite.
