Data Management

Databases and data management are fast becoming tools that every business requires - and the environmental industry probably needs these tools more than any other.

We can assist you with a range of aspects of data management, including:

  • Data modelling - designing what data you need to store, and how to store it - and considering your business processes and cost effectiveness during this assessment
  • Data maintenance and management - assisting you in making sure your data is current - what currently happens to your data when a species name is revised by taxonomists?
  • Data mining - obtaining reports from your data, and investigating the data for patterns or trends.

All of these data management tasks generally require some form of database. We have provided a range of database services - and are developing our own on-line databases - to our clients to assist, ranging from developing a new database through to maintaining historical ones.

We have undertaken development work in a range of software packages relating to databases, including:

Have a look at some of our projects for more information on our work with databases, or browse our database page, containing our internal on-line databases as well as links to a range of external on-line databases that we use in our ongoing work.

On-line databases are one area which our industry is not yet taking advantage of. While they are conceptually a bit different from your usual method of working, imagine not having to buy multiple copies of software - a well-designed and developed system can simply use your Internet Browser to access this data!
