MapInfo have just announced via their blog that MapInfo version 10 will feature full support for the open source database PostGIS. This announcement follows on from last year’s release of version 9.5 which featured WFS-T support (my blog on that is here) and to me strongly points toward MapInfo increasing their reach into the open geospatial space. Whether that involves moving towards releasing their own open source products or just continuing to support existing products and standards remains to be seem, either way it’s fantastic to have increasing support for open source from a major vendor.
MapInfo version 10 is officially unveiled in Perth at the MapInfo Roadshow on the 10th of June, I’ll be heading along so I will know more after that.
