It seems that we are posting job adverts often these days – indeed, Gaia Resources has been growing steadily over the past few years through the many challenges of global pandemics, market uncertainty, and all sorts of other concerns.
Right now, we’re looking at another round of recruitment to bolster our team as we head into the busy delivery period at the end of the financial year, and into the new projects that are slated to commence into the new financial year.
Specifically, we’re looking for people in three particular types of positions:
- Project Manager – we’re finding that as we’ve grown, we need to get more people on board who can manage the projects that we’re winning and delivering. Ideally, we’re looking for people who have delivered software projects, and want to work with us in our core areas; environmental technology, archives and collections, and the like,
- Devops Engineer – we have been discussing this title for a while, but what we’re after is a can-do person who understands how to help us deliver our projects using cloud infrastructure, primarily around the Amazon Web Services stack (although we’re working towards being more agnostic in our cloud infrastructure delivery), and
- Support Coordinator – once we deliver all these projects, we move into support mode and deliver a range of support services to our clients. This means that as we deliver more projects, we end up with more support projects as well, and we need another client-focused person to help deliver on those, this role with a particular interest in archival projects.
Like many other businesses, the COVID-19 pandemic has meant that we have moved towards a lot of remote working or working from home while our team remains safe and sound. That has been a really interesting outcome for us as it means that the majority of the roles we advertise these days can be delivered from anywhere in a relevant time zone – although we are an Australian company, so we do invest in Australian capacity rather than outsource to other countries. It’s important to us and to our clients that we develop capacity in our home country and make sure we deliver well.
Of course there are always exceptions – the Support Coordinator role listed above is one that we want to recruit for the Brisbane office so that we can also locally support one of our major clients, the Queensland State Archives (QSA). We are working with QSA on a brand new project to deliver a Digital Preservation System and we would welcome people with skills in that area that are local to Brisbane to join our team.
