As part of our 20 year celebrations, we have also introduced our new Gaia Resources branding - which includes a new web site as well!
Saying goodbye to the old branding was hard for me personally, because that logo is one my father (a retired publications and design professional) and I sat down and came up with when I was first starting the business 20 years ago. That logo has been one that I am going to miss because every time I look at it I think of that weekend we spend playing with different ideas, before settling on that one. So it has a special place in my heart, and will always do.
However, it's time at the 20 year mark to do something fresh and new. I've spoken about this being a bit of a renewal for us as a business and so having a fresh set of branding is a symbolic start to that. So, we worked with a few of the team at Liquid Interactive recently to come up with a new branding that's turned out to be something I'm just as fond of! You'll see the new branding across our business - in our corporate email signatures, our report and document templates, our social media profiles, and of course in this new web site.
Our plan for the web site is to start simple, and just start by explaining what we do. We've focused that on the What we do page, which gives you a broad overview of our approach to our customers. From there, we've also delivered a couple of simple pages that describe our work in the Environment and Collections spaces, where the majority of our current work resides. We've migrated across our old Projects as well, so you can see a selection of the projects we've worked on over the years on those pages, by both a map and list view.
While we've decided to remove the old website, you can still access it at archive.gaiaresources.com.au. The old website was driven by WordPress (this new one is in Drupal) and what we've done is to put the old website on a separate domain for the moment, while we convert it from a live WordPress site into a static set of HTML files. This is all about using our skills in Digital Preservation to look at how we can accurately preserve the website, so when we convert it we will also be reviewing the links and so on to make sure it's a true and accurate preserved copy. It's also been archived at the Wayback Machine, as a bit of extra insurance, and we'll be working through this as a case study in Digital Preservation as well - stay tuned for more on that!
Over time, you'll see us working our way through a range of different topics and developing more content in this web site as we identify a need for it. You can expect more blogs on our key areas (we're going to stick to a monthly plan for that), and you can also expect a few of our old skunkworks projects to be resurrected and given a new lease of life as we create some new spaces for us to play in. There will also be a few new ideas we'll be rolling out, so stay tuned for those - you can keep up to date on our Facebook, LinkedIn or Instagram social media accounts.
We'd love to hear from you about what you'd like to see in our new web site, so drop us a line at enquiries@gaiaresources.com.au and let us know what you'd like! Until then, we'll keep beavering away behind the scenes to create some more quality content to keep you up to date with what we're doing across the rest of our 20th year!
